Treasure Island
Treasure Island , which Stevenson first published serially in a magazine in 1881, has attracted readers of all ages to this day, both with its atmosphere and characters and with the exciting treasure hunt it describes. It is a coming-of-age story for the novel's teenage narrator, Jim Hawkins, who plays an important role in his safe return from the sea voyage he went on with his adult friends. Because in this expedition, Jim faced betrayals, surprise attacks and bloody clashes. In the actions of John Silver, the most fleshed out and strongest character of the novel, the author's sarcastic approach to the fact that the concept of "morality" is not always clear and unambiguous is perceived.
Treasure Island also played a big role in shaping the popular pirate image. Today, when we think of pirates, we owe the images of maps with the location of the treasure, tropical islands, and one-legged sailors with parrots on their shoulders to the fact that many film and TV series versions of the novel have reproduced these images and placed them in our collective memory.
