De Profondis-Photographed Classic
Oscar Wilde's close friendship with Alfred Douglas, who created either a scandal or a trend with every behavior throughout his turbulent life and whose every word became a proverb, made Douglas' father, the Marquis of Queensberry, very angry. Wilde, who was accused of homosexuality by the marquis, was arrested and put on trial when he resisted escaping despite the warnings of his friends to escape to France. Despite his brilliant testimony, he was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison. The letter he wrote to Douglas from Reading Prison, where he spent most of his sentence, was full of accusations against the young man for leading him into debauchery and then not protecting him. Although Wilde's letter did not reach Douglas, it reached its real reader after it was published under the name De Profundis in 1905.
We present this famous letter from the history of literature, with the translation of Roza Hakmen, accompanied by the foreword of André Gide, the author's close friend and admirer.
20 contemporary photographers from Turkey prepared the cover photos of 20 books with their original interpretations for this special series of Can Classics.
