Double Betrayal or Troubled Lovers
William Shakespeare (1564-1616): The legendary writer who has continued to impress readers and audiences all over the world for 400 years with his power of expressing the human condition in his plays and poems. Double Betrayal or The Troubled Lovers, which has recently been accepted as Shakespeare's work, was first staged by Lewis Theobald in 1727 and published in 1728. The play is the second lost text of Shakespeare's The History of Cardenio, written with John Fletcher and performed in 1613. Most of it is by Shakespeare, while the last act is by Fletcher. Recent research has shown that Theobald contributed little to the game. The story line of the play, which can be considered a tragicomedy, is based on Cervantes' Don Quixote, like Cardenio. Double Betrayal or Troubled Lovers takes its place in the Shakespeare oeuvre of the Hasan Âli Yücel Classics Series on the 400th anniversary of the great writer's death.
