  • This great novel, which brought Orhan Pamuk his first fame, tells the story of the seventy-year adventure of a family from Istanbul. With the author's afterword on "Country, Family, Novel"...

A family from Nişantaşı from the beginning of the 20th century This book, which tells the adventures of three generations, provides the reader with all the pleasures of a traditional novel, while detecting the colors of the interior of the house, the flow of time, and ordinary daily conversations through memorable heroes. In the last years of the reign of Abdulhamid, the ambition of small shop owner Cevdet Bey, one of the first Muslim merchants of Istanbul, is to both expand and enrich his business and to establish a contemporary, modern family in the "Western sense". The story of Cevdet Bey and his sons, who set out to realize these wishes by leaving aside their traditional family with roots in the countryside, is, in a sense, the story of the private life of the Republic of Turkey, which is in the effort of modernization. This panoramic novel, in which the interiors of houses, new apartment life, Westernizing big families, shopping trips to Beyoğlu, and Sunday afternoons listening to the radio are described with care and love, is a mature first book that brought Orhan Pamuk the fame he deserves.

"Pamuk literally takes the reader by the hand and takes him/her around in his own world, analyzing everything down to the smallest detail with intertwining scenes, encounters and conversations. "

Bulunmayan kitapların bulunduğu, kaliteli hizmetin adresi, ender bir kitapevi...İsminin kürtce olması da ayrıca sebeb-i tercîhim...
