Carmilla
Sheridan Le Fanu (1814-1873): One of the most valuable names in Irish literature. Although he studied law, he worked as a journalist, writer and magazine editor. Fascinated by books on demonology, occult arts and folklore that had interested him since childhood, he blended this interest with the supernatural elements of Irish fairy tales to create some of the most beautiful ghost stories written in English. He influenced many writers, especially James Joyce, with his famous novels such as TheCockandAnchor, UncleSilas, Wylder'sHand, as well as his stories containing horror and supernatural elements. Carmilla is one of Sheridan Le Fanu's best-known stories and one of the pioneers of vampire literature. It was written twenty-six years before Bram Stoker's Dracula and became one of the main sources of inspiration for the genre. It is also interesting because it includes a female vampire character in this genre. This classic text, which has helped the vampire myth survive to this day, has been adapted to cinema and television many times.
