Carmen Book Description

Prosper Mériméee (1803-1870): French writer, archaeologist and historian. He is one of the most important representatives of the romanticism movement. He is a versatile writer who, in addition to Spanish, Greek, Latin and English, has learned enough Russian to translate the works of Pushkin and Gogol, which he was very impressed by, into French. He is known for his plays, novels and essays as well as his long stories. Carmen, the most famous of these stories and the culmination of Mérimée's meticulous, measured art, was published in 1845.

In Carmen, which the author wrote after his travels in Spain, he talks about the eternal love of the passionate, freedom-loving, daring Gypsy Carmen and Don José. Since its publication, Carmen, which is also the basis for Bizet's famous opera, has inspired many other branches of art, has been adapted to the stage and cinema many times, and has presented an immortal character to world literature.
