Car Vivre CEtait Se Battre Et Faire Lamour
Zaven Biberyan, who now has a significant readership with his novels translated into Turkish, is before us this time with his autobiography, in which he proves that he is a remarkable writer in French as well as Armenian and Turkish. This striking text, in which Biberyan describes the difficulties he faced as an Armenian citizen and an intellectual who wanted to live life with all its intensity in Republican Turkey, comes to light for the first time. The author takes the reader to Istanbul of the 1930s and 1940s, among the events and people that played a role in the formation of his personality, his school years and childhood-adolescence memories. Biberyan, who also follows the social and political developments of his period, discusses the prejudices and injustices against non-Muslims in Turkey during the Second World War and discriminatory practices such as Wealth Tax and 20 Class Reserve Military Service. Biberyan, who conveys how people perceive the injustices they are exposed to and the efforts of a young man full of curiosity, creativity and liveliness to not limit himself and his world to his community while struggling with the injustices he faces, again takes refuge in his pen, writing and literature in all these difficulties. Biberyan's autobiography will soon be published in Turkish.
