Can Parası
In his stories, Fakir Baykurt deals with problems such as the harshness of village life, poverty, ignorance, bigotry, superstition and exploitation, and describes the material and spiritual world of the villagers from a socialist and realistic perspective. It's working. Based on observations and live testimonies, the author occasionally uses a humorous language by bringing daily spoken language into the story; It strikingly depicts the "ordinary person" who is stuck between the wheels of bureaucracy but harbors hope within him, together with the atmosphere of the place he lives in.
It was first published in 1973 and published in 1974 < strong>We are introducing Can Parası, which received the Sait Faik Short Story Award, to the readers again:
“The enthusiasm for Kavak was born while I was in this business. . There was no movement in the villages and towns he visited. He heard it on the radio and saw it in the newspapers. They would occasionally go to Kozpinar, 100 meters above the factory, to drink raki. They would buy a lamb from Çukur, Zeytinköy, and sit down with five or six friends. Sometimes they would call a newly arrived manager. Friends would drive up to the factory and walk upstairs. Because they were beautiful places. The road passed through cultivated fields and vegetable gardens. The trees would shade the face of the earth, some by sheathing their branches with fruit, and some by lifting their heads to the skies. Irfan's father was not much involved in earthworks. He bought this factory from Topal Aleksi when the Greeks were leaving. Aleksi's factory was in a secluded place, on the Tavas road, under the Greek mill. Hacı Kamil also bought the mill thinking that it would be useful one day. On that day, the Greeks are in trouble for their sweet lives! It wasn't money, it wasn't a mill, wasn't it? Of course, when he bought the mill, he also bought the land, and it was transferred to the title deed.”
