The most dramatic form of this is that those who embrace the 'Roma' image produced by the media and supposedly romantic view see 'Gypsies' as inferior to themselves, albeit in a vague and uncertain way.”

Gypsy, Roma, dark-skinned citizen, shopa... An ethnic group whose existence has always been known, but whose world is rarely the subject of examination, and where there is no consensus even on community names... Derya Koptekin has worked for years in social service centers in the "Gypsy neighborhoods" of Izmir. As a psychologist who has spent his days with Gypsy/Roma children and "knows the field", he focuses especially on children and asks all his questions, leaving aside all the clichés we think we know about them; He looks for the answer in their voices: Which group do they see themselves belonging to, what name do they call their ethnic group? What are their dreams, expectations, what kind of discrimination do they encounter? Most importantly, through which others do Gypsies/Roma, one of Turkey's others, establish their own identities and how do they position themselves in the social hierarchy?
