Biz İnsanlar
Tahsin, who is a boarding student at one of the schools in Boğaziçi, throws a stone at Cemil, who calls him a donkey Turk, and injures him. Orhan, one of the school teachers, takes the injured child home after first aid. Orhan, a nationalist teacher who vacillates between idealism and materialism, establishes a relationship with the rich and corrupt part of Istanbul after the Armistice and falls in love with Vedia, who was educated in the Western style and has cosmopolitan thoughts in that house. Peyami Safa asks a crucial question in his novel We People, which he wrote when he was at the peak of his writing: "How many morals can a Turk have who does not believe that Turkey will survive?" Peyami Safa points out that people experiencing ideal crisis will lose their balance by discussing the ideas such as materialism, socialism, mandate and nationalism, which occupied the agenda of the intellectuals during the armistice period, in terms of their characters, and shows that man is a spiritual being rather than a material being, and that the soul in man comes before matter.
