“I do not know my name. It changes every moment. Therefore, I do not know who I am. If I had a name, we would try to figure out who I am based on that. Where I come from and where I am going is even more complicated. Because the successive paths I took made me forget where I came from. I do not determine where I am going. At one moment I find myself in one place, at another moment in another. I am like a leaf caught in the wind. I have forgotten my beginning, I do not know my end.”

A Poverty is the second ring of Ahmed Sadreddin’s Karac'oğlan Trilogy. This ring is suspended from the nail of the past and the present, yesterday and tomorrow, reality and dreams. A Poverty is a narrative that is not limited by space and time. Moments appear intertwined like waves. Incidents are born within one another. Sometimes you find yourself in an Islamic town in the light of the Middle Ages, together with dervishes; sometimes with refugees seeking shelter in the dark age we are in, with a bag on their back and their hearts in their mouths.

A Poverty is the story of two drunkards walking holding on to each other. Two travelers who are familiar with each other's most secret secrets, who watch inside each other. A story written with the life water of two men from different worlds connected to each other by an invisible rope.

Poverty appears before us in this book both in its known meaning and in the way indicated by the Sufis. On the one hand, as a helplessness that ties hands and arms, on the other hand, as an endless possibility. The heroes, whose hands and arms are tied against the ironies of fate, find themselves on surreal journeys in a world they are strangers to, in cities they do not know, with people they do not know. Without moving from their places in the world they belong to. A Poverty is their story.
