The work of Ibn al-Asir, one of the important names of medieval Islamic history, al-Kamil Fi't-Tarih, contains the most extensive and original information about the Kurds. In this context, when the records up to the year 1231, when the work ends, are examined, it is possible to find information about the Kurdish tribes, dynasties and the geographies where the Kurds lived. In the author's records, it is seen that the Kurds lived mostly in the regions of al-Jibal, al-Zawzan, al-Jazeera, the south of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Mosul and Fars.
When we look at the role of the Kurds in the historical process in the work, the Kurds are first encountered during the conquest of Iran during the reign of Caliph Omar (634-644). In al-Kamil Fi't-Tarih, information about the Kurds in the early Islamic period is quite limited. It is observed that information about the Kurds increased from the 9th century onwards. Many Kurdish tribes are mentioned in the work and it is seen that the emirates of Marwani, Hasnewayhi and Annazi played important roles in the political events of the period in the 11th-12th centuries.
