Bilim: Dört Bin Yıllık Bir Tarih
Science: A History of Four Thousand Years is, as the name suggests, a history of science book. But it has many features that make it different from mainstream narratives of the history of science. Patricia Fara says in the introduction to the book: "Writing history is not just about gathering facts neatly and ordering events in the right order; it also involves reinterpreting the past, redrawing the world by making choices about what to include and who to exclude." Pointing out that the Eurocentric approach to the history of science is far from objectivity, Fara does not neglect to shake the myth of the "genius scientist". According to Fara, the history of science is not a straight and smooth road built by ideal heroes; It's a winding path made by flesh-and-blood people who make mistakes, compete, and sometimes even distort their findings. Who will take the lead on this path is closely linked to the concept of power.
"When we look at the past from a brand new perspective, knowing which questions to ask is as important as revealing new information," says Fara, who asks critical questions on many topics, from the impact of religion on science to the relationship of alchemy and magic with science, from the role of women in the history of science to different types of science.
