Wise Blood, the "cult" first novel, so to speak, of Flannery O'Connor (1925-1964), one of the most important writers of the literary genre called "American Gothic", was published in the 1930s. It tells a story set in America that examines the fine line that separates barbarism and civilization. Young Hazel Motes, who left the army service, returns home in a bitter mood to the conservative town in the "mythical" south of America. Waging a personal war against the deep religiosity of the townspeople, Hazel cannot avoid being caught up in a destructive relationship with the "blind" preacher Asa Hawkes and his corrupt daughter. Hazel, who decides to establish her own religion under the influence of the disappointments she experiences one after another, preaches a church without Jesus and a religion without dogma on the streets. However, under the guidance of O'Connor's deep philosophy and unique fiction, Hazel's desperate struggle will be dragged at full speed towards a tragic end where existence and fate are questioned...
"I can't think of a funnier and scarier writer than him. "
-Robert Lowell-
"Flannery O'Connor is the greatest storyteller of my generation."
