My Abode is the Mountains

Sabahattin Ali, who is known in our literature for his story telling and mostly his novel writing, started his writing life with poetry. Sabahattin Ali's character, which could not tolerate injustice, revealed itself most intensely in his poems, and many poems composed years after his death united people from different generations around his loving humanitarianism. There is the warmth of folk poetry and the sincerity that draws people to him with a clear hello, both in his enthusiastic poems that lead to mountains and companionship with crazy winds, and in his sad verses written with the pain of love, pain and sorrow.

According to Ceyhun Atuf Kansu, "He is like a traditional folk blacksmith who extracts the glowing iron of words from the furnace of Turkish." Sabahattin Ali is one of those who fan the "shepherd's fire". Even though "his honor is unknown" for many years, "his name is not mentioned", "no one asks" under which mountain he lies down, he is the companion of hearts whose "troubles are aroused" and the poet of those who say "there are still days to see".
