Behice Boran

This book draws the political and intellectual portrait of Behice Boran, one of the most important Marxist intellectuals of twentieth-century Turkey.

Behice Boran wanted to take part in the socialist movement as a faculty member who examined Turkey's economic and social organization forms with scientific methods and thus contributed to the discovery of the socialism method specific to Turkey. However, when he was expelled from the university due to a political decision, he entered the field of active politics. He attracted attention with his competent use of the historical materialist method in his political and social analyses. His was the story of an intellectual who bore the torment of the tension between grasping the peculiarities of his country and discussing them in the language of the materialistic laws of history, and who resisted the ordeals of the socialist struggle for almost half a century.

The life and work of Behice Boran, who combined political courage with scientific creativity, are examined in this book with a certain periodization. Periodization was made according to the basic themes that give meaning to Boran's life.
