The Zaza people are an Aryani people with ancient roots that come from the depths of history. But unfortunately, they have not seen the true value they deserve in history until today. Of course, there are many historical, political and geographical reasons for not seeing the value they deserve. The biggest disadvantage of the Zaza people is that they have been living isolated in the mountains, cut off from city life, for the last 1200 years since they came to Eastern Anatolia in 800 AD. In fact, this disadvantage has become their biggest advantage. The fact that the Zazas have lived in isolated mountains for centuries, away from external factors, has prevented them from being assimilated by other peoples. In this way, the Zazas have been able to preserve their language and culture orally rather than in writing.
The primary purpose of this book is to analyze how Western researchers, academics, travelers and orientalists who have studied Zazas and Zazaki since centuries ago have approached Zazas in terms of language, culture and belief by scanning original texts. Another purpose of the study is the issue of Zaza ethnic identity. It is an effort to determine from which angles Western researchers approach this issue, within which ethnic identity they evaluate Zazas and which criteria they use as a basis when making these evaluations.
In particular, while investigating the question of whether Zazaki is a language or a dialect, an attempt has been made to analyze how Western researchers view this situation and what criteria they base their work on. While preparing the book, a total of one hundred and forty-one sources written by Western researchers; books, reports, newspapers, magazines, travel books, encyclopedias, articles, language and linguistic studies and drawn maps have been examined in detail.
