Troublesome Inventions

We invented the gun:
We saved ourselves from being eaten by wild animals, fed ourselves better, and created a culture of equality; But we have been plagued with explosives, nuclear missiles, weapons of mass destruction...

We invented agriculture:
We minimized the risk of starvation, but while living freely, we made ourselves dependent on the land, and found ourselves faced with soldiers, kings, priests and a class society.

We invented writing:
We paved the way for democracy, science and art, but we also created monarchy, oligarchy and plutocracy.

We invented electronics:
We became liberated, we overcame the geographical barrier to human communication, but thus we made the state apparatus more oppressive, we lost our freedom, we lost our private life.

Genetic engineering, nanotechnology and epigenetics seem to solve many health problems for humans and promise a longer and healthier life, but they also threaten our future in terrible ways.
