Barışı Hayal Etmek
The Academy of Universal Cultures organized a forum on peace on December 19-20, 2002, chaired by Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel. The book you have in your hand was prepared with the minutes of this forum, which took place with the contributions of many writers, scientists and thinkers, including Paul Ricoeur, Julia Kristeva and Umberto Eco. The meeting held shortly before the Second Gulf War sheds light on the point our world has reached with what it includes and what it leaves out.
What can we hope for? How can we imagine peace? The discussions in the book make us think about many issues, from how the word "peace" is misused even by people who say they are seeking peace, to why Europe is so far from being the center of peace. It offers clues for imagining peace, especially with the contributions of philosophers and literary figures.
In this age when the world is in great need of peace activists, we are publishing this book to remind us of the difficulty of the path to peace by displaying the possibilities and limitations, and to make an inventory of what we need to think about in the steps we will take towards peace.
