The Virgin and the Gypsy
Yvette lives in a village with her priest father, sister, grandmother and aunt. They moved here after her mother ran away with a young and penniless man. The monotonous village life of Yvette and her sister Lucille is extremely boring. However, after a while, Yvette will meet a Gypsy and will experience feelings she has never known before, and this event will change her entire life.
The Virgin and the Gypsy, written by David Herbert Lawrence, one of the greatest writers of modern English literature, just before the famous Lady Chatterley's Lover, soon became considered one of the author's most important works. In this short novel, Lawrence, as he often does, deals with sexuality with all his sincerity. The Virgin and the Gypsy is one of the works that led the author to be seen as a pioneer of liberation.
