Attila
Attilâ is the only historical novel of Peyami Safa. With this novel, Peyami Safa looked at the era and personality of a great Turkish warrior like Attila from a Turkish perspective for the first time, and depicted a statesman and commander whom the Western world denigrated as "no grass grows where he passes", through Turkish eyes. While writing about Attila, Peyami Safa benefited greatly from foreign sources and especially the information provided by Byzantine historians. By showing how this steel-willed, iron-disciplined Turkish Khan was not only a statesman and commander, but also a gentle-tempered, immensely compassionate and sensitive-hearted person towards those who took refuge in him, he has stripped him of the cover of legends and presented him as a real historical figure. Perhaps more importantly than all this; In the person of Attila, Peyami Safa revealed the traces of the Turkish ideal of world domination and the will to restore order to a corrupt world.
