Atomic Philosophy Fragments-Hasan Ali Yücel Classics
Leucippus (5th century BC): Very little is known about the life of Leucippus, the founding figure of Atomic Philosophy, one of the pre-Socratic schools of philosophy. Whether he actually lived or not has been a matter of debate even in the ancient world. In a quote from Diogenes Laertius, it is said that Epicurus, like Hermarkus, thought that a philosopher named Leucippus did not exist, although there are more quotes about him. It is accepted that he lived in Miletus and was the teacher of Democritus.
Democritus (ca. 460-370 BC): Mentioned as Abdera in many sources. It occupies a central place in the development of Atomic Philosophy and the atomic theory of the universe. Democritus, following in the footsteps of his teacher Leucippos in basic matters, handled and developed his theory with a more skeptical and less deductive method. He traveled a lot in the East and learned many things in Egypt, Persia, India and Babylon. Democritus was also interested in ethical issues, or did not find it strange that later writers attributed some ethical fragments to him. Atomic Philosophy Fragments aim to translate into Turkish all early written sources about the representatives of this school of philosophy and their acceptance or rejection, which later laid the groundwork for Epicurean physics and materialist philosophy.
