Will to Meaning - Fundamentals of Logotherapy and Logotherapy Applications
Will to Meaning - Fundamentals of Logotherapy and Logotherapy Applications Book Description
Viktor E. Frankl, the founder of logotherapy and one of the most important authorities in the field of psychiatry, is one of the rare survivors of the Nazi genocide. According to Frankl, who invites the reader to think about the meaning of meaning with him, the distinguishing feature of human existence is not the pursuit of happiness or pleasure, but having a meaning and trying to realize it. And in today's era, which he calls the age of existential emptiness, meaning, as well as pleasure and happiness, will ultimately come without any pursuit.
The first part of the book is devoted to the theoretical foundations of the psychotherapy method founded by Frankl and later called 'logotherapy'. However, even in this theoretical section, Frankl's compassionate voice, always speaking from within life, can be heard. What he calls the tragic trinity of human existence; Frankl invites us to confront pain, death and guilt. The second part of the book talks about logotherapy practices. Here, Frankl offers numerous examples from the analysis of cases he encountered in his own medical experiences. But the most striking examples are from the concentration camps that he personally experienced... Some, if not all, of the sample cases, or a few points from each sample case, will surely be familiar to all of us. It will definitely lead us to think about the solution together with Frankl and his patients.
Perhaps the most important thought after Freud and Adler...

I regard this book as one of the most important contributions to psychological thought in the last fifty years.
