Anadolu Selçukluları-Bir Hanedanın Evrimi
This book, which traces the history of ideology and mentality of the Anatolian (Greek) Seljuks, presents a different evaluation from the comments and observations made for this part of history so far. It examines the transformation of Anatolian Seljuk sultans from nomadic lords into Persian-Islamic rulers. In particular, it discusses whether the concept of "jihad" was important enough for the Anatolian Seljuks to shape their policies. While doing this, Mecit uses Byzantine and Anatolian Seljuk sources, coins and inscriptions that have survived to this day, and shows throughout the book that the success of the Anatolian Seljuks was ideological, not military. How did the Seljuks in Anatolia manage to transform from rulers of a small principality into sultans who ruled almost all of Anatolia? What were the factors that made the establishment of this state possible? So far, historians have tried to explain this with political, economic and demographic factors. However, although these factors are important, they are not sufficient to explain the formation of the Greek Seljuk state. It has not been recognized so far that ideology plays an important role in the formation of a state.
