Ana has a special place among the classic works of Russian and world literature. It is one of the novels that conveys in the most sincere and striking way the "spirit" of the revolutions that shook the world along with Russia.

In his fluent novel that can be read in one go, Maxim Gorki has built unforgettable heroes while telling the historical and social transformations, revolutions and class conflicts of the early 20th century
"from the inside".

Pavel and Ana (Pelageya) have always been among us as living heroes of world literature since the days when the novel was written. Different heroes who participated in the struggle with workers, peasants, students, those who sacrificed their lives, those who watched from the sidelines, snitches, collaborators, bureaucrats... dozens of side characters present an impressive and realistic panorama of that period among the pages of Ana.

Gorky dedicated Mother , which he wrote in 1906, to the Russian Revolution of 1905. The heroes in the novel are the harbingers of the 1917 Soviet Revolution with their actions and courage. The novel, which was quickly translated into Turkish and serialized and published in the Tanin newspaper in 1909, was appreciated and adopted in our country as, in the words of Hasan Âli Ediz, it was "a symbol of the war against tyrannical orders".

Ana is a novel of hope and the struggle that rises from the difficult working conditions of the period, the conflictual May 1 celebrations, the devouring wheels of the factories, the mud of the slums, the naive beliefs and cunning of the villagers, and today it is a novel of hope against "despotic orders".
It remains up to date for those who fight….
