Mother
Maxim Gorky's novel Mother, written in exile in 1906, is considered one of the masterpieces of the social realism movement. It is the novel of the revolutionary struggle of the Russian proletariat against Tsarist Russia. The work tells the story of Pavel's mother, Pelageya, one of the women who carried the torch of the revolution, even though she initially approached the libertarian ideas of Pavel, one of thousands of workers working under difficult conditions in factories, with fear, but later embraced his principles. Ana, who masterfully reflected the social panorama of Russia before the 1905 Revolution, also became the symbol of a new thought and social awakening.
