But then, thinking that he disregarded a person's life, the doctor regrets not helping the woman and starts running, falling into the grip of the deadly state of insanity popularly known as Amok. He runs by destroying everything in front of him and eventually disappears himself.
In this story, in which he conveys a reflection of his life, Stefan Zweig manages to convey the concept of suicide, fears and the predicaments of a person to his readers in his unique style.
