Amerika Üzerine Düşünceler
The relations established between the Old Continent and the USA are often a tangle of very complex and contradictory feelings such as prejudice, curiosity, anxiety, enthusiasm and hesitation, which the parties mutually nourish. The path of Claus Offe, one of the most important thinkers of the second generation of the Frankfurt School, in this book is followed by Tocqueville, who went to the USA for a study trip, Weber, who was in this country for a comparative field study, and the one who spent more than ten years in the USA while escaping from Nazi persecution. It reveals a very interesting picture of this "sinister" relationship through Adorno, who lived a life in exile. Ending her book with a general evaluation of the beginning of the century, Offe describes the extent of the distance covered in this context and reminds us of the existence of some reservations and prejudices that remain vital. The work, which is one of the most exceptional texts of intercultural studies, offers its readers a horizon of observation and interpretation that far exceeds its initial aims.
