Birth of Alevism
“This study is interested in the 'how' rather than the 'what' of Kizilbash-Alevi religiosity. By examining the social and political environment surrounding the formation process of Kizilbash Sufism, I tried to reveal the background references of the ideological, belief and practice patterns of the form of religiosity it created. In order to understand the belief and ritual dimensions of Kızılbaş-Alevi religiosity, which is essentially called the Muhammad Ali Way in its internal tradition, it was necessary to first determine the background that forms these 'subconscious structures'.”
Riza Yildirim, 14.-15. It tells the "adventure" of the east of Alevism in Anatolia amidst the great social and political turmoil of the 11th century.
Nomadic Turkmens started migrating to Anatolia in the 12th-13th centuries. How did they reconcile Islam with ancient Turkish, Mesopotamian and Anatolian traditions and beliefs in the centuries; With what kind of religiosity did they develop it? How did the tension between the socio-political order based on the nomadic-tribal lifestyle and the Iranian-Islamic culture and the social structure based on settlement evolve, and how did their relations with the Ottoman state turn from "comradeship to hostility"? In this process, how did the combination of grassroots Turkmen religiosity, Safavid doctrine and Shah Ismail influence create Kizilbash Sufism? How did this formation, which had a revolutionary ideology but did not have the theological and legal devices to become a "state", change after the Battle of Chaldiran and moved away from Mahdi-revolutionism and moved towards "settlement" within the Ottoman world?
It is both a highly detailed, lively story and a powerful theoretical analysis that shows how to "understand" history.
