Cry, My Beloved Country is the first book by South African author Alan Paton. He waits for the day when it will be understood that a permanent solution to South Africa’s serious and deep-rooted problems cannot be provided by use of force. According to Paton, the solution is understanding and love; a life condemned to fear and unhappiness will be an unbearable slavery. Cry, My Beloved Country has been translated into many languages of the world. It has been a literary classic embraced by anti-racists since the first years of its publication.
