Before Adam

Before Adam is the story of a modern American boy who sees in his dreams the experiences of his alter ego, Big Tooth, who lives in a prehistoric age. There were three different types of humanoids in that age: Tree People, who had not yet descended from the trees and were closer to wild apes; The species that Kocadiş calls "The People" and to which he belongs, living both in trees and in caves; and the Fire People, the most advanced of these humanoids, who make fire and use bows and arrows. The work attracts attention by bringing the issue of evolution to the public agenda in the early 20th century. London conveys the thought structure of the primitive man, which his modern narrator looks at from a distance of thousands of centuries, by enriching it with his imagination. It paints a dark picture of our distant ancestors and the brutal world in which they lived, a place of ceaseless conflict and struggle for survival.
