Justice Party-Ideology and Politics
The Justice Party (AP) is a phenomenon that left its mark on Turkey's political life from 27 May 1960 until 12 September 1980. AP was in power or its partner in power for a significant part of this period. It was one side of the left-right polarization brewing in the political and ideological debates of the period. As the predecessor of the DP and the successor of the ANAP/DYP (and later the AKP) line, the AP can be said to have carried out the construction of rightism in Turkey. In this book, Tanel Demirel analyzes the political and ideological identity of the AP. The party's stance on modernization, democracy and freedoms, and development; It reveals the motives of both 'consistencies' and 'double-standards' here. In this context, he questions the expansions and limitations of liberal political ideology in Turkey. AP's points of departure from the political elite and Kemalist ideology and their continuities with it constitute an important discussion axis of his study. In this respect, the book also offers rich observations about Turkey's political culture. AP also midwifed the beginning of Süleyman Demirel's political leadership career as a 'permanent' figure in the post-1960 Turkish political history. The book is also a review of Demirel's views and the ideological strategy under the leadership of the AP.
